The Water Resources Design Professional is responsible for supporting and assisting Project Managers and other Design Professionals with the technical hydrologic and hydraulic aspects of commercial, industrial, municipal, and various other design projects. The Design Professional works with the team members to provide the client with the highest quality of services, from conceptual planning and preliminary design through construction plans, jurisdictional permitting, and completion of construction activities, focusing on the technical aspects of a project.
Technical expertise in data collection, data synopsis, modeling, and reporting for hydrologic restoration, stormwater improvement projects, master plans, and flood studies is fundamental to this position.
- Work with APMs, PMs, and SPMs on a daily basis to achieve project objectives.
- Achieve task objectives by working closely with GIS/CAD operators and other Design Professionals.
- Collect and process data adhering to the organization’s database system.
- Review and extract information from surveys, geotechnical, environmental, and biological reports.
- Produce graphics, GIS statistics, and multimedia demonstrations of model results.
- Prepare reports and technical memos.
- Adhere to project objectives, timelines, budgets, and standards under the guidance of APMs, PMs, SPMs, and the Water Resources Lead.
- Communicate project issues promptly for swift resolution.
- Maintain minimal communication with representatives for current and potential clients.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of civil and environmental engineering principles, practices, and tools.
- Basic knowledge in fluids, hydrology, groundwater, and modeling concepts.
- Hydrologic/hydraulic modeling using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Hydra Flow, or similar models.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MATLAB, and other design, data recording, and analysis software.
- Background in probability and statistics.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office.
- Entry-level proficiency in Python, VBScript, or other coding languages preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
- Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Creative and analytical thinking.
- Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or other Water Engineering fields required; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- 4+ years of experience with Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or 8+ years of experience with Engineer Intern (EI) licensure.
- Experience with local jurisdictional governments related to design criteria and permitting.
- Experience throughout Louisiana and the Gulf Coast preferred.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to travel to various project sites.
- Ability to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
