Salary range: $11,437.00 – $14,315.00 per month. New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of an alternate range when applicable.

Under the direction of a Supervising Bridge Engineer (Office Chief of Structure Office Engineer), the incumbent supervises and manages staff responsible for the preparation, review, independent quality assurance, and delivery of structure cost estimates and construction working day schedules for bridges and structures. The role ensures compliance with all Caltrans policies and guidelines.
Responsibilities- Supervise staff in the development and review of cost estimates and construction schedules for bridge and structure projects.
- Conduct independent quality assurance to ensure accuracy and compliance with Caltrans standards.
- Maintain oversight of project deliverables, milestones, and quality control processes.
- Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
- Valid Professional Engineering license issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Valid driver’s license for operation of state‑owned or leased vehicles.
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required – typed, no more than two pages, single‑spaced, 12‑point Arial font. The SOQ must address the following items in order:
- Experience developing cost estimates and working day schedules for structure projects.
- Knowledge and experience with bridge construction methods, materials, procedures, tools, and equipment.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and applying construction contract specifications for bridges or other structures.
- Examples demonstrating leadership, mentoring, coordination, and organizational skills in engineering teams.
- Academic qualifications and evidence of minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview. Unofficial, original, or sealed official transcripts may be required.
Complete the State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678) and submit all required documents by the Final Filing Date. Completed applications and required documents must be received or postmarked on or before 01/03/2026.
