Senior Bridge Engineer (Specialist)
The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structures and Engineering Services, Office of Earthquake Engineering, Analysis, and Research (OEEAR), is recruiting for Senior Bridge Engineer (Sr BE) (Specialist) position, located in Sacramento.
Under the direction of a Supervising Bridge Engineer, the incumbent serves as a technical specialist for OEEAR in DES. The incumbent works in a team environment to develop and implement Caltrans seismic strategies, policies, and guidance materials; provides technical oversight on seismic criteria and seismic design for important or unusual bridge projects; develops research problem statements and manages and monitors the progress of Caltrans research projects;
and supports the OEEAR staff working to identify and prioritize bridges for seismic risk.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Bridge Engineer exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. - Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. SOQ must be typed and no more than 2‑pages, single‑spaced, using 12‑point font. Resumes do not take the place of the SOQ. Please submit SOQ that addresses the following:
- Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative and productive member of technical engineering teams in the delivery of bridge or related structure design, research, construction, or maintenance and operation projects.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with refined analyses of bridge structures and the structural design methods, details, standards, procedures and policies, and specifications utilized by Caltrans.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate bridge seismic performance principles, and experience with Caltrans seismic design policy and guidance, screening bridges for seismic vulnerabilities, and developing retrofit strategies for existing bridges.
- Demonstrated ability with development, implementation, or project application of specialized seismic engineering practices such as seismic response modification devices, seismic risks, foundations, complex and unusual structures, or advanced analyses.
