Under the direction of the Deputy Director for District 10 Planning, Local Assistance & Environmental Support (CEA), the incumbent is directly responsible for the overall program management of the Local Assistance, Project Initiation, Travel Forecasting, and Environmental Branches within District 10. Areas of emphasis include Local Assistance and Project Initiation management, Environmental program oversight, monitoring of unit resource expenditures, tracking local project progress, and identifying and resolving project delivery barriers.
Though equivalent to a subordinate supervision role, the incumbent is responsible for program management and related activities and functions.
This position may be eligible for telework; the amount is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’ evolving telework policy. In‑person attendance may be required on an as‑needed basis, and all commute expenses to the headquartered location are the responsibility of the selected candidate. Business travel may be required. Telework guidelines and travel reimbursement consider CalHR regulations or relevant bargaining unit contract provisions.
Minimum RequirementsPlease see the Class Specification for detailed minimum qualifications. In summary:
- Valid civil engineer registration by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- At least one year of transportation or civil engineering experience at a senior‑level position in California state service, or one year of supervisory/managerial experience equivalent to a senior transportation planner, and two years of civil engineering work at the associate engineer level or higher, OR more than five years of transportation engineering experience, with at least two years equivalent to senior level.
