Job ResponsibilitiesThe Credit Underwriter is responsible for evaluating new lending opportunities and performing comprehensive analysis to determine the creditworthiness of the borrower.
Responsibilities include:
- Assess risk in the borrower’s business strategy and real‑estate projects.
- Prepare credit memorandums outlining lending opportunity, key risks, mitigating factors, and analysis.
- Conduct credit analysis evaluating the applicant’s creditworthiness, financial strength, and loan repayment capacity.
- Perform market analyses and review real‑estate appraisals.
- Work with Loan Officers, Relationship Managers, and all Genesis departments to obtain due‑diligence items.
- Present credit memorandums to Credit Management for review and approval.
- Analyze legal documentation to understand borrower structure and support AML/KYC compliance.
- Assess risk in the borrower’s business strategy/experience and real‑estate investments.
- Prepare credit memorandums and briefing documents.
- Perform financial analysis and cash‑flow modeling.
- Conduct market analysis and real‑estate appraisal review.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders for due‑diligence and compliance.
- Present findings to Credit Management.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 3+ years in commercial real‑estate banking or private real‑estate lending (underwriting, credit analysis, or related experience).
- Experience in construction lending is a plus.
- Knowledge of complex real‑estate lending, loan structuring, and financial analysis fundamentals.
- Financial modeling and pro‑forma financial statement preparation.
- Knowledge of credit underwriting policies and procedures.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications for pipeline management.
- Strong underwriting judgment and ability to consolidate information from multiple sources.
- Ability to identify risks, conduct analysis, and articulate concise recommendations.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Effective multi‑tasking and prioritization to meet deadlines.
- Adaptability to changing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
