Revenue Recovery Officer I
San Bernardino County is recruiting Revenue Recovery Officers I to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume collections environment and use a variety of methods to collect delinquent revenues due the County. Revenue Recovery Officers I manage large caseloads of delinquent accounts and investigate, analyze, and determine the best course of action to resolve debt; establish payment schedules; appear in court; interpret court orders and laws to ensure compliance;
and recommend court action as needed.
Current vacancies exist at the Auditor‑Controller/Treasurer/Tax Collector office. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies throughout the County.

The eligible list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies throughout the County as well as in the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District and Special Districts Department. The San Bernardino County Fire Protection District and Special Districts Department are separate entities from San Bernardino County, and as such, compensation and benefits for their positions are set forth in a different Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Fire Auxiliary Services Unit.

- A valid California Class C Driver License may be required to carry out the essential job‑related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
- A successful background check, including credit, is required prior to assignment.
San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Qualifications- Must possess one (1) year of full‑time experience collecting on a large caseload of delinquent accounts for a governmental or third‑party collection agency, hospital, or closely related environment. Primary duties must include full‑time responsibility initiating and receiving collection calls, investigating financial information to determine debtor’s ability to pay, applying skip‑tracing techniques, and recommending and expediting legal action. Qualifying experience includes collecting on one or more of the following: government debt, medical bills, credit card, unsecured/secured retail debt, or personal loans.

Accounts receivable collections experience is not considered qualifying. - All work experience must be clearly detailed and demonstrated on the application and supplemental questionnaire to ensure qualifications are properly considered (resumes are not reviewed). - The ideal candidate will have experience in a high‑volume collection environment, an understanding of collection processes, and feel comfortable interacting with the public in order to successfully collect on delinquent accounts.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, current laws, and government regulations pertaining to the collection of delinquent accounts.
- The ideal candidate will be a self‑assured and persuasive individual with excellent interpersonal and public contact skills, the ability to handle conflicts, multi‑task, work well under pressure, experience handling a high volume of delinquent accounts, and public sector collections experience.
