Job SummaryThe Financial Analyst will support the month-end close process, perform general ledger reconciliations, prepare financial and regulatory reports, and assist with compliance and audit activities. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Support month-end close tasks including journal entries, financial reporting, and variance (flux) analysis.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations and manage unbilled revenue accruals accurately and timely.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare forecasts of regulatory accounts.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly financial and regulatory reports related to revenues and volumetric gas throughput.
- Assist with SOX testing of internal controls and quarterly certifications.
- Support the implementation of new cost recovery mechanisms and / or regulatory accounts as authorized by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
- Respond to ad hoc data requests from regulatory bodies (CPUC), external auditors, and internal audit teams.
- Identify and recommend process improvements for efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum years of accounting or financial analysis experience , preferably in a regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting systems .
- Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing deadlines.
- Professional demeanor with a positive, proactive attitude .
- Commitment to confidentiality and accuracy in all work.
- Experience in utility or regulatory accounting.
- Familiarity with California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) reporting requirements.
- Exposure to SOX compliance and audit processes.
