Job Description and Duties

Arson and Bomb Investigator responsibilities include investigating arson and bomb incidents, working with explosives, and maintaining equipment such as the Bomb Suit and SCBA.

• Hybrid telework option per CAL FIRE telework policy; must report to office as needed and reside in California.
• Must wear respiratory protection equipment including self‑contained breathing apparatus (SCBA); requires annual medical clearance.
• Must lift, carry, or move heavy objects up to 75 pounds in confined spaces over distances up to one mile.

• Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with endorsements as required.
• Background Investigation clearance required prior to hiring.

• Certification: POST Regular Basic Course Academy (RBC) in good standing, current weapon qualification status.
• Certified Explosives Specialist Core training (ATF) and Hazardous Devices School (HDS) certification.
• Bomb Technician certification through FBI requirements.
• Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) certification through recognized organizations (OSFM, CCAI, NAFI, IAAI).
• Ability to work throughout California and at unusual hours, including weekends and holidays.
