The Person nel Security Specialist, II is a mid‑level position within the Consolidated Personnel Security Center (CPSC). The role processes security clearances with the DoD and DHS, assesses pre‑screen eligibility for access, and manages related database and reporting functions.
Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct pre‑screen assessments for Security clearance eligibility for Secret, DHS Fitness, and Top‑Secret Security clearances.
- Make independent assessments to determine eligibility.
- Initiate requests using eApp for new and periodic DoD and DHS security clearances.
- Review SF‑86 forms for accuracy and forward to employees for corrections or to government for processing.
- Verify individual security clearances in the DISS, Scattered Castles, and the DHS databases to ensure current status.
- Assist with compiling and submitting monthly metrics as directed.
- Follow up on DCSA and DHS documentation requests.
- Assist candidates with completing SF‑86 and SF‑85 forms.
- Maintain the SIMS database and create status reports for FSO’s, CSSO’s, and leadership as needed.
- Communicate with DCSA and DHS representatives on clearance actions and make independent decisions to resolve processing issues.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and desk guides are updated and followed.
- Produce RAND employee badges and maintain accountability in SIMS.
- Grant and remove building access in the access control system.
- Work on and close JIRA tickets as assigned.
- Remain current with emerging technologies, maintain professional relationships, and attend occasional technology conferences.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- 1+ years of experience required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with SIMS, DISS/NBIS, Scattered Castles SWFT, and eApp.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions impacting clearance processing timelines.
Must meet eligibility requirements for access to U.S. government classified information.
LocationSanta Monica, CA – 100% onsite.
Salary and BenefitsSalary range: $64,400–$96,100. RAND considers job responsibilities, experience, and education when forming an offer. Successful candidates will receive a base pay plus RAND’s sabbatical pay and access to comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, and paid time‑off.
