Responsibilities- Maintain security in buildings, towers, and other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders.
- Supervise movement of offenders inside and outside the correctional facility; conduct periodic counts and inspections; search offenders and their living quarters for contraband; escort and transport offenders to predetermined locations.
- Supervise offenders in housing units during work activities and recreational/religious activities.
- Conduct inspections for health and safety hazards; prepare and submit reports on offender violations and security breaches.
- Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious problems to proper staff; promote rehabilitation by modifying offender’s social attitudes and encouraging worthwhile activities.
- Supervise visits with offenders; search visitors, offenders, buildings, and grounds for contraband.
- Perform work in accordance with established rules, regulations, post orders, and specific instructions; receive general administrative direction.
- Perform other related work as assigned.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Special Requirements- Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
- Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
- Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
- Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
- A $2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins between 12:00 pm (noon) and 5:00 am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility.
- A $0.75 per hour maximum-security stipend if you work full‑time at a qualifying facility.
- A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned to a regular post within a restricted housing/segregation unit at any facility.
