Community Relations Aide – County of Santa Clara
The Office of Supervisor Sylvia Arenas is recruiting for a Community Relations Aide position. The role serves as a community relations representative in direct support of an elected official. The position will coordinate community outreach, casework, and public information efforts for District 1.
Education and/or experience in public relations, political science, public policy, public information, communications, or marketing is highly desirable. The ability to develop and maintain effective relations with constituents and organizations with a positive professional demeanor when working in public is essential. Strong writing, communication, and community or political organizing skills are preferred. Bilingual language skills (Vietnamese, Spanish, Chinese) both oral and written are desirable, though not mandatory.
EmploymentDetails
Employees in this classification are not members of the classified civil service. The appointment is on a contract “at-will” basis for a specified period determined by the appointing Supervisor/Chief of Staff and does not extend beyond the Supervisor’s term. Candidates must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion, and salary employees are not eligible for overtime compensation.

Annual salary range: $65,000 - $75,000, based on qualifications and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, CalPERS retirement, paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
Typical Tasks- Maintain relationships with constituents and stakeholder groups within the District.
- Provide staff support to the Supervisor at meetings and events.
- Attend meetings and events on behalf of the Supervisor; identify collaborative opportunities.
- Collaborate on content for the Supervisor’s electronic newsletter, constituent correspondence, and mass mailings.
- Respond to constituents seeking help; provide resource information and facilitate solutions with partners.
- Design flyers, graphics, and materials for community and public information.
- Update and design web and social media content.
- Engage and collaborate with constituents, organizations, and County staff.
- Assist with talking points, quotes, and messages for events and social media outlets.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in public or customer service, public relations, communications, or recreation programming.
- Valid California Driver’s license.
- Proof of employment eligibility required.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and grammar skills.
- Ability to collaborate with community‑based organizations for program preparation and management.
- Ability to manage programs, activities, and projects within the Supervisor’s authority.
- Ability to work independently and in a team, managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities.
- Ability to carry out and promote the Supervisor’s agenda regardless of personal philosophies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint).
- Experience with photo management and graphic design (Adobe or other).
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
