About the Position

The Sheriff9s Office is looking for someone to join their team as a Community Services Officer
. This is a uniformed non-sworn position performing a variety of para-professional law enforcement support duties in either law enforcement stations or court services. Depending on which option you are appointed to, your duties may include:

  • Law Enforcement - receive and respond to citizen inquiries and requests for law enforcement service at a public counter, over the phone, and in the field; operate County vehicles and equipment and coordinates vehicle towing; assist with DUI checkpoints.
  • Detentions/Court Services - serve civil process, including subpoenas, summons and notices in the field throughout the County, process citizens through weapons screening stations at courthouses entries and ensure and maintain order and quiet in and around the courtrooms.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma OR GED, AND Six (6) months of experience in a field or office environment which involves public contact, information exchange, and clerical work.
  • OR Six (6) months as a law enforcement Explorer AND Be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Felony convictions will be disqualifying. Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation which may include a psychological, truth verification (polygraph), or other examination or test.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

As part of the County of San Diego9s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position.

EVALUATION

Qualified applicants will be placed on a nine (9) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in the employment and supplemental applications.
