OverviewUnder the direction of a Senior Environmental Planner in the Cultural Studies Office, the incumbent reviews cultural resources management reports for statewide consistency with the Section 106 Programmatic Agreement and the Public Resource Code 5024 Memorandum of Understanding. The role maintains the statewide historic bridges inventory, tracks National Register eligible bridges, and identifies needs for future updates. Working independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team, the incumbent supports transportation projects and programs by carrying out historic studies and planning activities that satisfy state and federal historic preservation laws and regulations.
Responsibilities- Review and ensure statewide consistency of cultural resources management reports.
- Maintain and update the statewide historic bridges inventory.
- Track National Register eligible bridges and identify update needs.
- Collaborate with historical archaeologists, senior planners, environmental scientists, and environmental staff.
- Assist in the creation and review of environmental compliance documents.
- Provide guidance to regions and districts on technical and compliance issues.
- Develop manuals and guidance documents.
- Conduct training and serve in a lead capacity over Caltrans staff or student assistants when required.
- Associate Environmental Planner (Architectural History) classification.
- Education and experience:
4-year college degree or higher. 3+ years of historic preservation experience. Knowledge of Section 106 Program and Public Resource Code 5024 is required. - Certification and documentation:
Applicants must submit unofficial transcripts, degrees, or certificates for verification of education. Unofficial, original, or official sealed transcripts are accepted and may be required upon appointment. Foreign transcripts or degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency evaluation. - Applicants with foreign transfers must provide a transcript/degree U.S. equivalency report indicating units and degree equivalence. Refer to NACES or AICE for evaluation agencies.

Position located at 1120 N Street, Sacramento. The role may be eligible for telework based on Caltrans telework policy. Employees are expected to report to site with minimum notification for urgent needs. Business travel may be required. All commute expenses to the headquarters location are the responsibility of the selected candidate.
