Under general supervision, the dispatcher operates multifrequency/channel radio systems, law enforcement telecommunications terminals, computer terminals, and associated equipment; responds to telephone hot‑line circuits; dispatches mobile law enforcement and emergency response units to specified points as required; identifies locations where assistance is required; determines the availability and location of departmental units; and dispatches units by radio. The dispatcher requests emergency services as requested or required by field personnel, responds to other law enforcement and emergency response agencies, dispatches departmental units for response as necessary, acts as incident coordinators, and tracks and responds to emergency response calls.
The dispatcher accesses data related to warrants, driver licenses, vehicle and vessel registrations, hazardous materials, weapons, stolen property, and criminal history information through the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System and other databases; maintains required logs; answers telephone inquiries and provides information; and performs other related duties.
