Job Description and Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief, CF, the Institution Fire Captain, CF performs fire prevention and suppression activities in a State correctional institution; to promote acceptable attitudes and behavior of inmates under supervision, and for provides the basis for protection of life, property, environmental conditions, and regulatory compliance for Folsom State Prison and California State Prison-Sacramento.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

ALL HIRES ARE SUBJECT TO HIRING FREEZE AND/OR BUDGET APPROVAL.

Working Conditions

This position works 'behind the walls' at Folsom State Prison.

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position.

Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.

NO EXAM IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ~ MUST ALREADY HAVE STATE CIVIL SERVICE ELIGIBILITY FOR THIS CLASSIFICATION (i.e. must have already participated in an examination/assessment for this classification).

(There are no other exams available in place of this one; therefore, if you do not have eligibility for this classification (Fire Captain Correctional Institution), you cannot take any other exam to become eligible.)
