Family Service Associate I (Contra Costa County)

Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF) is seeking a Family Service Associate I to link families to essential services such as health, nutrition, social services, mental health, and family engagement. The role supports families in making decisions, setting goals, and accessing community resources. The position requires a case management approach, recruitment, eligibility determination, and enrollment for state and federal programs.

Responsibilities
  • Establish a supportive, collaborative, and engaging relationship with families.
  • Conduct family assessments and develop individualized Family Partnership Agreements to provide necessary services, resources, and follow‑ups.
  • Support families with emergency assistance or crisis intervention.
  • Serve as a liaison to initiate referrals and ensure follow‑through to confirm that services are beneficial and effective within the program and with community agencies.
  • Orient parents to the comprehensive services of the program, including Health, Nutrition, Education, Disabilities, Mental Health, parent engagement, and ERSEA.
  • Discuss with families the importance of coordinating health, social, and educational services for supporting children’s ongoing learning and development and family well‑being.
  • Assist families in locating sources of health and dental care and encourage their involvement in the health care system.
  • Complete required screenings and maintain accurate records. Follow up as requested by Content Experts and Coordinators/Managers.
  • Recruit, determine eligibility, and enroll children into the federally funded Head Start and state funded Child Care programs. Ensure eligibility compliance with both the federal and state programs.
  • Complete initial certification and recertification interviews. Process verification needs and eligibility requests from parents.
  • Prepare childcare contracts, send Notice of Action, and submit Requests for Eligibility Verification.
  • Enter data for all required services and maintain an accurate database for both the state and federal programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow program record‑keeping policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly required reports, including attendance.
  • Collaborate effectively with others in a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Meet with appropriate program staff as required for planning, guidance, and training.
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meetings.
  • Attend in‑service trainings, unit meetings at sites and staff meetings, including parent meetings.
  • Attend local and community events, fairs, and other events as needed to meet community needs.
  • Make home visits as required and as scheduled.
  • Travel to centers, partner sites, community agencies, conferences, and trainings.
Requirements

  • Bilingual – Spanish speaking preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Social Work or related field, or Family Development Credential.
  • Minimum two (2) years of paid experience working with low‑income groups. Experience in a preschool environment preferred.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Physical Demands

Employee may sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers for daily tasks, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and drive/travel as required.

Work Environment

Environment may include evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
