The City of Dinuba Fire Department is recruiting for the position of Paramedic. This position is responsible under general supervision to respond to emergencies; to administer Advanced Life Support to and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities. The City of Dinuba is looking for a Paramedic who can provide customer service and patient advocacy while serving the community with compassion, professionalism and honor.
Responsibilities- Respond to emergencies and drive specially equipped emergency vehicles to specified locations.
- Monitor communication equipment to maintain contact with the dispatcher; remove or assist in removal of victims from scene of accident or injury.
- Establish Advanced Life Support treatment, delegate basic life support duties to first responders, and base decisions on statements of persons involved, examination of victim(s), and knowledge of emergency medical practice.
- Administer prescribed Advanced Life Support at the site of the emergency or in a specially equipped vehicle; perform activities as allowed by Paramedic certification.
- Communicate with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and arrange for reception of victims.
- Assist in the removal of victims from vehicles and transfer to treatment centers; assist admitting personnel in obtaining and recording victim vital statistics and circumstances of the emergency.
- Attend mandatory continuing education to maintain certifications; oversee training and skills of EMTs; maintain vehicles and medical/communication equipment and replenish supplies.
- May assist professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at medical facilities; respond to medical alarms while on duty; operate ambulances and administer Advanced Life Support.
- Assess emergency situations and may take charge until a higher-ranking officer arrives on the scene.
- Perform routine station maintenance and repair tasks, inspect and perform minor repairs on equipment, and keep station quarters and equipment clean and orderly.
- Study and review Fire Department rules and regulations; may perform minor mechanical repairs on equipment; provide support services to City departments as required.
- Provide city-wide training on subjects such as CPR and blood borne pathogens; assist in maintaining grounds around the station; perform additional duties as required.

- Drive ambulance with care and safety in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances.
- Speak on radio and follow emergency instructions.
- Analyze circumstances to determine the scope of the emergency and adopt effective courses of action.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; think and act quickly in emergencies.
- Understand and act in accordance with Department policy, CCEMSA protocols and procedures, and written and oral instruction.
- Effectively supervise and lead work of EMTs; keep records and prepare reports; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
Any combination of education, experience, and training which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be:
Equivalent to graduation from the 12th grade and completion of courses for certification for Paramedic, with one year of experience as a solo paramedic in an emergency system preferred. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Possession of a valid State of California Paramedic License or National Registry with ability to obtain California Paramedic license within one (1) month of appointment; CCEMSA Paramedic certification or ability to obtain CCEMSA Paramedic certification within one (1) month of appointment;
Current BLS healthcare provider; possession of a valid California Operator's License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
