Position: Full-Time Speech Therapist
Location: Louisiana

SHPH is currently seeking a Full-Time Speech Therapist. The Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with speech, language, cognitive‑communication, voice, swallowing, and related disorders. Working in a critical access hospital, the SLP provides services across the lifespan—often in acute care, outpatient, swing bed, and sometimes home health settings—supporting patients with complex medical needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, goals, and physician recommendations.
  • Provide direct therapy services to patients across a variety of settings (inpatient, outpatient, swing bed).
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform and interpret Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS), if certified/trained.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on communication techniques, swallowing precautions, and home exercises.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to discharge planning.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA, and all applicable regulations and licensure standards.
Requirements
  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Speech‑Language Pathology and of an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Must be licensed by the State of Louisiana and maintain a license in good standing.
  • Must hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence by the American Speech‑Language and Hearing Association.
  • Must maintain CPR and TB skin testing in accordance with hospital policy.
