Safety Specialist

Overview

Safety Specialist at University of California, Riverside. The Safety Specialist collaborates with campus units to administer EH&S compliance programs, perform routine and impromptu audits, provide training and outreach, apply technical knowledge in campus EH&S issues, and ensure procedures are properly followed. The role supports a comprehensive and holistic safety program by serving as a safety liaison to multiple departments and working with EH&S subject matter experts, Risk and Insurance Management, Occupational Health, Office of Emergency Management and Training.

• Collaborate with campus units and departmental staff in the administration of environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) compliance programs and delivery of EH&S services.
• Oversee the administration of EH&S programs; perform routine and impromptu audits of campus work locations; provide training and outreach; apply technical knowledge in EH&S issues and ensure procedures are followed.
• Follow up with EH&S leadership and campus management as appropriate.
• Serve as a safety liaison to multiple departments to ensure strong safety programs across the campus.
• Work with EH&S subject matter experts, Risk and Insurance Management, Occupational Health, Office of Emergency Management and Training to maintain a comprehensive safety program.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills to identify trends and offer solutions to complex safety issues.

• Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
• 4 - 7 years of related experience.
• Thorough knowledge of EH&S fields and related laws and regulations; ability to interpret and apply standards.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work in a diverse environment.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage projects within time and budget constraints.
• Proficiency with technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.

The full salary range for the position is $75,900 - $137,300 annually. The expected pay scale is $73,600 - $106,600 annually. Salary offers are based on education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business needs. Federal, state, or local directives may impose additional requirements.
