The primary purpose of the Resident Medication Assistant (RMA) position is to assist residents with self-administration of medications as ordered by the physician, under supervision.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing companion care such as reading, visiting, assisting with correspondence, and other tasks per resident’s plan of care.
- Assisting with bathing, dressing, and hygiene.
- Making beds, organizing resident care areas.
- Preparing light meals as directed.
- Scheduling and accompanying residents to medical appointments.
- Promoting independence and safety.
- Assisting with exercises and mobility.
- Applying medical devices as ordered.
- Assisting with medication self-administration after training.
- Collecting specimens.
- Delivering meal trays and assisting with laundry.
- Following emergency protocols.
- Monitoring vital signs and weights.
- Providing respite services for families.
- Participating in activities as instructed.
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D., with approved medication administration training (8 hours) and passing exam, including shadowing and ongoing education.
Experience: Preferably 2 years in long-term or assisted living care.
Current first aid and CPR certifications are required.
Skills and KnowledgeKnowledge of elderly medications, RCFE regulations, personal care services, and team collaboration. Ability to handle stressful situations and follow instructions.
Preferred QualificationsG.E.D. or higher, high school diploma.
Licenses & CertificationsFirst aid and CPR required.
