The Occupational Therapist (OT) at Laura’s Barn Preschool & Child Care Center plays a critical role in supporting the fine motor, sensory, and self-care development of young children in an early learning environment. This individual will assess, develop, and implement individualized intervention strategies to help children build the skills needed for learning, play, and daily activities. The Occupational Therapist will collaborate closely with teachers, aides, administrators, and families to create an inclusive and developmentally appropriate environment that helps children strengthen motor skills, improve sensory processing, and enhance their independence in daily tasks.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution
  • Valid California Occupational Therapist License (required)
  • Experience working with young children (ages 0-5) in an educational or therapeutic setting
  • Knowledge of sensory integration, fine motor development, and early childhood occupational therapy strategies
  • Must pass Live Scan background check, TB test, and required immunizations
  • Completion of Mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training (or willingness to complete)
Key Responsibilities
  • Child Development & Intervention
    • Assess fine motor, sensory, and self-help skills of children in the classroom setting.
    • Develop and implement individualized therapy plans to support children’s physical, sensory, and developmental needs.
    • Support children in strengthening motor coordination, handwriting readiness, self-care tasks, and sensory regulation.
    • Work with children using play-based therapy techniques to promote development in a natural learning environment.
  • Classroom & Teacher Collaboration
    • Provide classroom-based strategies to help teachers support children with fine motor delays, sensory challenges, or self-regulation difficulties.
    • Offer training and coaching for staff on adaptive equipment, classroom modifications, and sensory-friendly teaching strategies.
    • Recommend materials, activities, and tools to help children build functional independence in the classroom.
  • Family Engagement & Support
    • Work closely with parents and guardians, providing guidance, strategies, and at-home activities to continue skill-building.
    • Conduct family consultations to review progress, concerns, and collaborative strategies.
    • Assist in transition planning for children who may require additional early intervention services.
  • Compliance & Documentation
    • Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions, progress reports, and assessments.
    • Ensure all interventions comply with Title 22 child care licensing requirements and best practices in pediatric occupational therapy.
    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.
  • Collaboration with Other Specialists (If Needed)
    • Partner with speech therapists, behavioral therapists, early intervention teams, and psychologists to provide comprehensive child development support.
    • Assist with referrals and coordination of outside services when additional support is required.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working in a preschool or early childhood education setting
  • Familiarity with Title 22 child care licensing requirements
  • Certification in Sensory Integration Therapy or Early Intervention Therapy
  • Strong ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Passion for using play-based therapy techniques to support young learners
