Community Living Instructor (CLI)

A Bright Future inc. is looking to hire a Community Living Instructor (caregiver) for our East Bay region. We are looking for someone who is a California registered driver, must speak, read and write in English, and can work in the Concord, CA area.

Job Description

TITLE: Community Living Instructor (CLI)

STATUS: Full-Time or Part-Time

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None

REPORTS TO: Community Support Facilitator (CSF) House Manager

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience (preferred)
  • 1+ year of experience working with intellectually disabled adults (preferred)
  • Preferred ILS experience or special education teaching experience
  • Behavioral training and knowledge of Regional Center System servicing developmentally disabled (preferred)
  • Reliable and safe transportation with auto insurance (preferred)
Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • CPR and First Aid training, or willingness to be trained within 30 days of employment.
  • Negative TB/Chest X-Ray (prior to employment).
  • Department of Justice fingerprint clearance (prior to employment).
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening (prior to employment).
  • Current personnel certifications, clearances, and reports as required by agency policy or licensing/Regional Center Requirements.
Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee needs to be able to communicate with participants/clients, hear, sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach within arm’s length, lift and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds, possess visual acuity, and be licensed and able to drive during their assigned work shift.

Responsibilities

The Community Living Instructor (CLI) is required to devote a minimum of 90% of work hours each week to Personal Attendant duties, specifically, supervision, feeding, and dressing of participants/clients who, by reason of advanced age, physical disability or mental deficiency, need supervision. The remaining 10% of work hours may be devoted to additional duties such as:

  • Implement program curricula working with participants on daily objectives and goals.
  • Directly deliver individual and group learning experiences to assist each participant served in obtaining his/her IPP objective.
  • Maintain data regarding participant progress.
  • Prepare teaching material for Independent Living Skills Training and Support Service sessions.
  • Schedule participant session time and programming according to their Individual Service Plan and the Training domains.
  • See individual participants in their home to train, teach and provide support in money management, nutrition, cooking, comparison shopping, emergency procedures, community education, counseling, and crisis intervention.
  • Coordinate participant training programs with other programs.
  • Report suspected abuse immediately to supervisor, case manager and other appropriate agencies; complete special incident report within 24 hours.
  • Keep participant files up-to-date at the home of the participant.
  • Assist participant in coordinating with other programs, services and benefit systems such as Social Security, AFDC, WIC, Food Stamps, counseling, Planned Parenthood.
  • Understand and convey the participant-centered philosophy of A Bright Future in interactions with participants and agencies.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and monthly individual meetings with supervisor.
  • Attend all training provided by A Bright Future, Inc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
