Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP), Crescent City, CA. Pelican Bay provides constitutional medical, dental, and mental health care to a diverse correctional population. The mission is to facilitate the successful reintegration of individuals back to their communities by offering education, treatment, rehabilitative, and restorative justice programs in a safe, humane environment.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the institution’s suicide prevention program, including training, suicide risk evaluations, internal reviews of suicide attempts and completed suicides, and institutional audits.
- Oversee the Mental Health Program’s training activities and maintain the psychological assessment program.
- Maintain order, supervise conduct of incarcerated individuals, and protect safety of persons and property.
- Travel to regional facilities as required.
- Licensed Psychologist issued by the California Board of Psychology.
- Doctorate Degree in Psychology from an institution meeting Section 2914 of the Medical Board of California's Business and Professions Code.
- Either:
- One year of experience as a Clinical Psychologist in the California state service performing the duties of a Psychologist (Correctional Facility or Staff Psychologist).
- Two years of postdoctoral, post‑internship experience in assessment and treatment with training, research, consultation, or program planning in mental health services.
- For unlicensed individuals, secure a valid license within three years of appointment or the employment shall be terminated.
- Base salary range $12,685.00–$14,939.00 (public notice).
- Recruitment and retention bonus up to $20,000 during the first year for eligible employees.
- Referral bonus up to $5,000 for employees who remain employed for 90 days.
- Three‑year temporary appointment with potential extension to 24 months or permanent status.
- Personal Leave Program 2025: 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly, 3% base salary reduction for full‑time employees.
