Assesses, monitors, and treats patients through group, individual and co-treatment therapeutic recreation interventions ensuring optimal overall wellness and rehabilitative outcomes. Protects patients and employees by adherence to infection control policies.

• Develops and implements therapeutic programs/interventions based on assessed treatment goals to ease stress and anxiety of patients, and to focus on their physical, social, cognitive, emotional and leisure needs.
• Monitors patient progress and consults with care team regarding patient care, goals, attends care conferences and facilitates interdepartmental and intradepartmental treatment.
• Assess and assists patient as it relates to treatment goals with life skills, ensuring optimal patient independence, least restrictive environment, comfort and safety.
• Plans and implements therapeutic programs for patients including but not limited to; leisure, recreation, wellness activities, life skills, and special events.
• Maintains a physical, social, and psychological environment in the best interest of the patient, and directs and provides clinical services, therapy staff and volunteers with appropriate activities for patients per their assessed interests.
• Assess the need for community re-entry and/or community resources and coordinate as appropriate.

• Provides oral and written communication of therapy data and patient progress to other departments to ensure continuity of patient care; provides communication to parents as needed.
• Charts and documents patient evaluations, progress notes, goals and discharge summaries, and records all care provided, including attendance and length of treatment.
• Participates in, in-service education sessions and professional education sessions.

• Recommends and arranges for patient equipment, toys and supplies, and assists with maintenance.
• All other duties as assigned by the Recreational Therapy Manager.

• The Recreational Therapist must have a Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation
• Have eligibility to sit for the CTRS exam and obtain certification (CTRS) within one year of hire
• Previous experience in a pediatric setting is preferred.
• Hold a current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association,

These include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, standing, carrying, and lifting of light loads (up to 35 lb.).
