Supervising Diagnostic Imaging Technologist – County of Santa Clara

Under direction, to supervise and coordinate the operations of an imaging modality or major section in Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH).

This recruitment is for Supervising Diagnostic Imaging Technologist positions throughout the Santa Clara County Health System. The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used for potential vacancies located at O’Connor Hospital, Regional Medical Center, St. Louise Regional Hospital, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH) is the second largest public health care system in California and includes three acute care hospitals, 14 clinics and 60+ specialty and sub‑specialty services. Our mission is to provide high‑quality, accessible healthcare and excellent service to everyone in Santa Clara County. SCVMC is a full‑service tertiary acute care teaching hospital with 699 licensed beds providing a wide range of specialized services.

O’Connor Hospital is a 358 licensed bed acute care facility offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty programs. St. Louise Regional Hospital has 93 beds, is a Designated Primary Stroke Center, and the only acute care hospital in the area.

Typical Tasks
  • Supervises, coordinates and expedites the workflow of an imaging modality or major section in SCVH.
  • Assigns and supervises the daily operations and coordination of one or more SCVH imaging modalities, assigning examination rooms, evaluating worklists, deploy resources where needed.
  • Assists subordinate staff with difficult technique or positioning problems.
  • Assigns examination rooms, reviews imaging for quality and suggests ways to improve the quality.
  • Interviews, selects, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates program staff.
  • Coordinates the clinical, operational and technical quality control testing and maintenance of diagnostic imaging equipment and programs and related record keeping for the imaging modality.
  • Evaluates equipment problems and coordinates preventive maintenance and repair.
  • Reports and makes recommendations regarding key performance indicators, staffing patterns and new equipment.
  • Generates reports from Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to provide standard and requested reports for quality, volumes, productivity, trends and patient access.
  • Meets with medical staff in the division and throughout the hospital to resolve problems related to diagnostic imaging patient service, quality and access.
  • Orders supplies and coordinates the inventories of the division.
  • Provides technical guidelines for education and school affiliation programs for technologists.
  • May perform imaging procedures across various modalities, including but not limited to Radiograph, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine Technology, Computed Tomography (CT), or Ultrasound.
  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW), as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Employment Standards Education

Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the ability to perform the above tasks, plus the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities.

Training and Experience Note

Two years of full‑time experience in a medical imaging discipline, such as Radiology, CT, Interventional Radiology, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, or related field, plus one year of lead, supervisory, managerial, or director experience in an imaging discipline.

Special Requirements
  • Possess and maintain, in good standing and without restrictions, throughout the duration of employment in this classification at least one of the following certifications relevant to the respective modality:
    • Radiologic Technology:
      Licensure by the State of California to practice as a Radiologic Technologist and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Sonography:
      Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in a minimum of two RDMS specialties used at SCVH.
