Provides assistance to physicians with patient‑related procedures, patient history and is responsible for maintaining a smooth patient flow, acting as a liaison between physicians, patients, and medical office staff.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Assist providers in performing office procedures and duties related to patient care, adhering to documentation standards.
- Assess patient flow, identify and resolve interruptions, or bring them to the Practice Manager.
- Perform basic PA functions such as injections, immunizations, pulmonary tests, Snellen, hearing exams, and ECGs.
- Acquire thorough patient histories and document preventative care, assist with medication reconciliation and transcribe family history and forms based on protocol.
- Review patient orders for completeness and cancel any incomplete orders before checkout; rectify inaccuracies and report to the Practice Manager.
- Review referrals and laboratory requisitions for correct patient, accurate tests, diagnoses, and correct laboratory.
- Obtain waivers and consents, document procedures and instructions in the electronic medical record per protocol.
- Prepare examination rooms immediately after visits, maintain supplies, and disinfect daily per protocol.
- Ensure patient checkout and provide the Patient Summary Plan; review it with the patient to ensure understanding.
- Exhibit tact, courtesy, respect, cooperation and support in all interactions with patients, staff and providers.
- Perform duties with speed and accuracy while observing OSHA, HIPAA, DHS, CLIA, EPA guidelines.
- Other duties as reasonably associated with the essential functions, as requested by the Practice Manager.
- Education
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Candidates with at least five (5) years of experience may be considered in lieu of a diploma.
- Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate from an accredited school.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Certification preferred.
- BLS certified with knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Maintaining certification by completing CME’s and keeping certifications up to date.
- Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in a medical practice environment.
- Special Skills/Knowledge
- Knowledge of medical technology, procedural terminology and diagnostic codes.
- Ability to maintain a professional and patient‑care oriented attitude.
