Base pay range: $6,134.00 - $7,843.00 per month.
Additional Pay Benefits:
- Effective May 01, 2022, employees in this class, employed within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and who are physically located at and assigned to the Psychiatric Inpatient Program, shall receive a pay differential equivalent to 15% of their monthly base pay.
- Only employees who provide direct patient care, treating patients in‑person, on grounds or at a facility more than 50% of the pay period, are eligible for this pay differential.

Job Description and DutiesUnder the general supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), Unit Supervisor (Safety), or Senior Psychiatric Technician (Safety), the Psychiatric Technician (Safety) provides a basic level of behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to patients in accordance with health care policies and procedures, Mental Health Program Guide requirements, and Title 22 regulations to patients in the Psychiatric Inpatient Program (PIP).
The PT (Safety), in collaboration with the RN, CF and the PIP care team, ensures the delivery of appropriate and timely health care to patients and coordinates interdisciplinary communication to promote continuity of care. Under valid authorization by a provider's order and the delegation and clinical direction of the RN, CF provides support to the PIP care team for daily PIP operations and communicates effectively with patients, members of the PIP care team, and other members of the health care team.
The PT (Safety) is responsible for addressing the ongoing needs of patients, working with the members of the larger health care team, and promoting the efficient, appropriate, and cost‑effective use of health care resources.
• Possession of a valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the BVNPTE. (Applicants within four months of completing the Psychiatric Technician curriculum accredited by the BVNPTE will be admitted to the examination, but must secure this license before they will be eligible for appointment.)
• To obtain eligibility for the Psychiatric Technician before applying for the position, you must first take and pass the examination.
