Summary:

** Surgical Assistants perform a variety of patient care, transportation and related support tasks  under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician.

Essential Functions:

* Education:

*** High School diploma or equivalent preferred
* Completion of a Nurse Assistant program, Emergency Medical Technician program, Orthopedic Technician program or related program is preferred
*
* Experience:

*** A minimum of the equivalent of one year full-time experience in a patient care position, such as a Nurse Aide, Hospital Technician or Orthopedic Technician, is required
** License and

Certifications:

*** Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire.
* Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) required at hire.
* Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) required within 30 days of hire.
** Prerequisite

Skills:

*** Demonstrated technical competency in supplies and equipment utilized in a surgical/recovery environment
* Proficiency in search/data entry and basic computer skills
* Ability to set priorities and maintain a calm demeanor while working in a fastpaced atmosphere of conflicting demands
* Ability to work tactfully and effectively with physicians, nurses and other hospital employees
* Ability to interact professional and compassionately with patients and their families
* Knowledge of principles of sterilization and aseptic technique
