Primary function.
Registers all patients seeking medical services at Community Hospital-Fairfax and operates as the communication center for Community Hospital Fairfax to ensure the needs of patients, staff and physicians are met.
Duties and responsibilities
- Initiates and completes the admission process.
- Alerts appropriate departments of incoming admissions.
- Receives patient, interviews patient, obtains or re-checks information.
- Obtains signature from patient, guardian, or POA for consent forms, insurance forms, and guarantee of payment.
- Completes MSP (Medicare Secondary Payer) questionnaire as required.
- Collects co-pays, deductibles or other monies for services rendered to current outpatients.
- Performs final check over all work completed at the end of their shift.
- Call on
-call staff when requested by ER personnel. - Walks to ER (Approximately 250 ft one way), collects patient information, and gets nursing staff stickers and front sheets in a timely manner.
- Puts on ALL patients presenting for services.
- Prepares paperwork for Specialty Clinics.
- Operates the CPSI computer system with understanding and accuracy, especially in assigning admissions information codes.
- Assigns new medical record numbers when appropriate and performs a double check to ensure a new medical record number is needed.
- Prepares copies of all forms needed in the office to ensure we do not run out.
- Facilitates the Switchboard System.
- Answers incoming calls and transfers to appropriate personnel.
- Able to operate the paging system with a tactful, pleasant manner.
- Relays messages accurately, especially concerning patient scheduling for services.
- Actively participates in monthly telephone survey.
- Serves as the Receptionist.
- Completes receipts and cash receipts journal correctly for any monies received.
- Prepares the deposit for over-the-counter insurance and personal payments.
- Provides assistance, guidance, and directions to various locations in the hospital.
- Initiate and complete Hospital fire and tornado drill;
County-wide tornado drills; radiation alerts, and emergencies per policy. - Greets all visitors, patients and staff.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, trade school graduate.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Dependable, responsible, courteous and tactful.
- Dedication to maintaining confidentiality of all patient records.
Working conditions
Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease, infection from patients.
Serve multiple Age groups – neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric. Required to sit. Inside job.
Physical requirements
Sitting for long periods of times. Will need to react quickly. Will need to be able to walk quickly and possibly several times a day based on patient load in ER.
