Direct Support Specialist

Boone County Family Resources is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Direct Support Special ist in our residential program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

• - Developing a rapport with residents and cultivating a safe and supportive relationship
• - Assisting individuals with disabilities thriving in their homes by providing support with completing personal hygiene, grooming, cooking, laundry, cleaning, and shopping.
• - Supporting individuals with connecting in the community by assisting with transportation to work, activities, and appointments and providing support as needed during activities at various community locations.
• - Encouraging individuals to achieve their personal goals through the implementation of planned services and working collaboratively with other team members.
• - Work closely with the person served, their plan teams, and supervisors to develop, implement, and monitor/ report progress on individual plan goals

• - Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• - Experience providing direct care to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
• - Ability to obtain a Class E Chauffeurs license
• - Access to a licensed and insured vehicle
• - Demonstrate responsibility and maturity with excellent communication and organizational skills
• - Ability to pass applicable background checks and a pre-employment drug screening

• - Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
• - May require prolonged periods of standing, bending, or walking .

40 hours per week with shifts ranging from 8-10 hours on weeknights, weekends, and some holidays. Staff works with individuals with /DD in a residential apartment setting.

Salary:
Starting at $20.00/hour with additional weekend incentive. Eligible for merit-based raises at 6 months, 1 year, and annually thereafter.
