Overview
Hospitality Tasting Room Manager. Robert Young Estate Winery is a luxury, family-owned estate in Alexander Valley, 10 minutes from Healdsburg. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Hospitality Tasting Room Manager to lead our tasting room team and oversee Scion House, our hospitality center. We are looking for a proven manager and inspiring leader with DTC experience who can grow and develop a small but high-performing team while fostering a warm, approachable culture rooted in family values.
The ideal candidate is creative, thinks outside the box, and passionate about delivering a high-touch luxury guest experience in a nimble, fast-paced environment with a flat reporting structure. This full-time role (Tuesday–Saturday, 9:00am–5:30pm) oversees strategic leadership and daily operations of the tasting room, drives direct-to-consumer sales, leads staff development, and cultivates strong industry relationships. The position reports to the Sales & Marketing Manager and the Director of Winemaking & Winery Operations, balancing innovative guest programming with strong financial oversight and operational excellence.
- Strategic Leadership & Financial Oversight
- Develop and own sales and expense budgets for hospitality operations, modeling profitability and financial targets.
- Establish and manage weekly, monthly, and daily sales goals.
- Define and report on performance metrics (KPIs): conversion rates, average spend, repeat visitation, club conversion, etc.
- Analyze trends, recommend corrective actions, and proactively adjust plans.
- Partner with management and finance to forecast, monitor cash flow, and control costs.
- Guest Experience & Hospitality Excellence

- Manage daily tasting room operations; actively greet and engage guests while modeling service standards.
- Design and elevate guest experiences, ensuring consistency in storytelling, ambiance, and service flow.
- Ensure hospitality spaces are clean, polished, and guest-ready (interiors, patios, gardens, restrooms) in partnership with landscaping and cleaning services.
- Comfortably sell and close sales.
- Staff Leadership, Training & Development
- Foster a culture of integrity, authenticity, teamwork, ownership, and luxury hospitality.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise the hospitality team.
- Provide ongoing brand, wine, and sales training; develop and update SOPs, scripts, and service standards.
- Ensure Club and shipping orders are accurate and complete.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to review goals, priorities, and performance.
- Lead bi-annual performance reviews and growth planning.
- Guest Acquisition, Outreach & Partnerships
- Develop annual outreach strategies to drive qualified visitation.
- Cultivate relationships with key referral partners: luxury hotels, concierges, restaurants, destination management companies, clubs, and associations.
- Work with marketing on POS materials, collateral, merchandise, signage, and promotional handouts.
- Track referral performance and optimize based on results.
- Events & Loyalty Programming
- Work with management and Event Manager to plan and execute high-end release and member events (on-site and off-site).
- Support planning, setup, on-site execution, and post-event follow-up.
- Coordinate with vineyard, cellar, and marketing to align event themes and deliverables.
- Ensure events deliver exceptional guest experiences and drive sales, loyalty, and brand affinity.
- Wine Club Integration
- Collaborate with Wine Club Manager to support club growth and retention.
- Train staff on membership benefits and upgrade opportunities.
- Monitor metrics including sign-ups, retention, upgrades, and guest feedback.
- Operations & Inventory Management
- Oversee tasting room inventory of wine, merchandise, and supplies with high accountability.
- Coordinate with production and warehouse teams on allocations, vintage transitions, and inventory movement.
- Enforce SOPs for opening/closing, cash handling, POS, restocking, shipping, and compliance.
- Partner with facilities and maintenance vendors to resolve issues quickly.
- Must be 21+ with 5+ years of winery or luxury hospitality management experience.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
- Experienced in a Tasting Room environment with a track record of success in wine sales and membership acquisition.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable with record-keeping.
- Proficient with basic software (Excel, Word, Wine Direct POS/Admin, Ship Compliant, Red Chirp, Tock
