Position Summary
The Assistant Hotel Manager helps support the Hotel Manager in all aspects of the hotel including housekeeping, front office, guest services, planning, staffing and payroll in accordance with hotel policies and procedures.
- Directly supervise housekeeping, laundry, front office, and guest service staff.
- Assist in planning and conducting training programs.
- Help plan and coordinate activities, assign and review work, resolve problems.
- Ensure the team delivers excellent customer service, guest comfort and safety.
- Handle inquiries or complaints promptly and courteously in person, on the phone, or via e‑mail.
- Maintain hotel cleanliness and tidiness at all times.
- Maintain high morale within the operations team.
- Create and execute plans to increase efficiencies and service levels in housekeeping.
- Ensure guest requests are handled properly and promptly.
- Ensure all rooms meet Big Cedar Lodge standards.
- Keep up to date with current promotions and pricing to maximize room sales opportunities.
- Conduct weekly quality checks on guestrooms and public spaces.
- Maintain effective communication among the team.
- Monitor rate and occupancy levels to support sales objectives.
- Ensure all guest registrations and due outs are completed accurately.
- Investigate and close open balances promptly.
- Ensure staffing levels align with business targets.
- Report security incidents immediately.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and licensing laws.
- Ensure open communication between departments and staff.
- Maintain a professional, high‑quality, hospitality‑oriented environment.
- Maintain awareness of group arrivals and ensure staff is informed.
- Ensure adequate staffing for group success.
- Review group billing for accurate revenue capture.
- Inform staff of daily activities, group requests and special guest needs.
- Assist with scheduling and payroll for operations departments.
- Hold regular department meetings to keep staff informed.
- Reinforce standards of professionalism and promote a strong team culture.
- Assume additional responsibilities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED; 2 years’ experience in hotel management or related area.
- At least 1 year experience as Front Office Manager or Executive Housekeeper.
- Previous customer service and general computer experience required.
- Effective written communication.
- Basic computer skills: word processing, internet browsing.
- Reading and oral comprehension.
- Personnel management, recruitment, training, compensation, labor relations.
- Knowledge of relevant laws: OSHA, EPA, ADA, etc.
- Administrative and clerical procedures, including form design.
- Analytical and critical thinking to solve problems and propose alternatives.
- Training development and evaluation.
- Customer service excellence.
- Basic math skills.
- Creative problem solving.
