Analyst I – Personnel Management Division (CalHR)

Salary: $3,975.00 – $6,464.00 per month (based on classification or alternate range for new‑to‑state candidates).

Job Summary

Join the Service and Seniority Unit (SSU) as an Analyst I in the Personnel Management Division (PMD). You will become a statewide subject‑matter expert in state service and seniority calculations, helping employees navigate personnel questions and ensuring they receive the credit they deserve.

Responsibilities
  • Review employment history records and calculate state service and seniority for employees.
  • Interpret and apply complex rules and data to guide personnel decisions.
  • Provide accurate and timely mathematical analyses and reports to support state workforce management.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve personnel inquiries and improve processes.
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements are listed in the Class Specification. Classified as ANALYST I for this opening. The position offers hybrid telework opportunities with a minimum of two days in‑person per week.

Desired Qualifications
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills; ability to research, interpret, and apply complex regulations related to state service and seniority.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting employment history records and familiarity with State Controller’s Office systems such as PIMS or similar.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access; ability to perform calculations, use formulas, manage datasets, and prepare clear documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of correspondence and reports.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize work, manage competing deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high‑volume environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, exercising sound judgment and maintaining professionalism.
