A Mainframe Programmer is responsible for leading and/or supporting the most complex database upgrade projects, modifications, installations, testing, implementation, maintenance, and enhancements of new or existing system software products. The role plans, installs, configures, tests, implements, and manages core database products and software supporting the County’s database architecture and business needs. Core responsibilities include DB2, IMS, ADABAS, and other legacy systems management.

The Mainframe Programmer/DBA manages databases such as hierarchical (IMS), relational (DB2), and file-based (ADABAS). Responsibilities include planning and upgrading databases, verifying database health, providing technical consulting, maintaining production systems, performance reviewing, evaluating new or fine-tuned DBMS software, consulting on database design, developing logical and physical designs, creating backups and recovery procedures, monitoring performance and space, reorganizing, replicating, compressing, and partitioning databases.
Required technology skills: IBM Z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, Assembly/Cobol/Rexx, IBM File Manager, Delta/IMS, Natural/Super
NAT, Entirex, CA Spool, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, N20/Trim.
- Install, configure and support Oracle Enterprise Edition Database 19c as a backend for web applications and internal data warehousing on Linux.
- Install and configure MySQL and Postgre
SQL databases. - Install and support Microsoft SQL Server instances.
- Configure and support Oracle gateways connecting SQL Server, MySQL, and Postgre
SQL to Oracle. - Oracle Spatial implementation and support.
- Build custom ETL utilities with Crons, SQLLoader and PL/SQL.
- Provide DB administration services such as patch installation, cloning, backup and recovery, and script development (Unix shell scripting and PL/SQL).
- Troubleshoot and resolve ETL jobs.
Minimum seven (7) years of experience as a Systems Programmer/DBA, with at least three (3) years in a lead role.
Experience PreferredMinimum four (4) years of DB administration experience in Oracle/MySQL/Postgre
SQL environments.
Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or engineering field.
