Position Overview
Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA is responsible for leading and/or supporting the most complex database upgrade projects, modification, installation, testing, implementation, maintenance and enhancements of new or existing system software products. This classification must plan, install, configure, test, implement and manage core database products and software products in support of database architecture and business needs. Special positions may include DB2 Systems Programmer/DBA, IMS Systems Programmer/DBA and ADABAS/NATURAL Systems Programmer/DBA.

Mainframe Systems Programmer/DBA for Legacy Systems manages various databases—hierarchical (IMS), relational (DB2), and file-based (ADABAS). Responsibilities include planning and upgrading database environments, verifying database health, providing technical consulting to application and operations teams, maintaining production database systems, performing technical reviews for systems using ADABAS, DB2, or IMS.
Skills required:
database administration, logical/physical database design, capacity planning, backup and recovery, performance monitoring, space monitoring, reorganizations, replication, compression, partitioning. Technical knowledge: IBM Z/OS, IMS, DB2, ADABAS, SMP/E, JCL, IMS DB/DC, CICS, ACF2, Assembly/COBOL/REXX, IBM File Manager, DELTA/IMS, NATURAL/SUPERNAT, ENTIREX, CA SPOOL, IMS & DB2 BMC Tools, N20/TRIM.
Minimum seven (7) years of experience as a Systems Programmer/DBA, including at least three (3) years in a lead role.
Experience Preferred- Three (3) years within the last five (5) years designing, developing, testing, and administrating software with three or more Oracle Database products:
Oracle Database 12c/19c, Oracle Exa Data Cloud Service (ExaCS), Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW), Oracle Database options (ASO, ACO, DB In-Memory, Multi-Tenant), Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), Oracle Active Data Guard (ADG), Recovery Manager (RMAN), Data Pump. - Three (3) years within the last five (5) years utilizing two or more midrange Oracle Fusion Middleware (FMW) 12c products:
Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Oracle Application Express (APEX), Oracle DB Materialized View (MV), PL/SQL. - Three (3) years within the last five (5) years designing, developing, testing, deploying SQL/PLSQL applications between mainframe, SQL Server data warehouse, and Oracle environments.
- Three (3) years troubleshooting application deployment using Oracle Enterprise Manager, familiarity with Oracle Web Logic Server, HA, DR concepts.
- Three (3) years using three or more development/testing/defect tools:
Oracle SQL Developer, Oracle SQL Plus, Oracle Data Integrator Studio, Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle Database Performance Testing and Tuning, Oracle Application Testing Suite. - Two (2) years with CI/CD tools:
Jenkins, Apache Maven/Ant, Git, Sonar Qube. - One (1) year leading software development team in Agile SDLC, TDD & Dev Ops principles.
- Experience installing/configuring Oracle products on Oracle Linux/Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
- Familiar with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and on-premises Mainframe/Windows/Linux environments.
Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related or Engineering field. Additional qualifying experience may substitute education on a year-for-year basis.
Education PreferredSoftware and IT systems administration skills across Mainframe, Mid-Range, and Linux platforms.
