Location: California

Under general supervision, provides basic technical support for desktop computers, peripherals, and computer applications. This position is responsible for performing a broad range of duties in the areas of desktop and hardware support, courtroom audio visual/recording equipment, and facility automation systems. Other duties include warehousing, supply, mail delivery, material or equipment transport, light maintenance, customer service and operating a court vehicle.

Employees in this position are expected to respond to internal and external technology-related requests in a timely and effective manner. This position requires the employee to collaborate on information technology and facilities efforts yet also act independently to prioritize issues as they arise, often working with little supervision or direction. Employees in this position must be aware of technological advances and be prepared to make suggestions toward improvements in this area.

As new technologies are adopted by the court, the employee in this position will coordinate installation of programs or devices.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from the IT Network Manager and Chief Information Officer. Does not exercise direct supervision over staff.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is an entry and journey level generalist classification responsible for facilities support and routine, Tier 1, computer technical support of users. This class is distinguished from the higher-level Court Information Specialist in that the Court Information Specialist is responsible for more complex levels of computer support, including Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical computer assistance.

EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
  • Receives and prioritizes help desk requests from internal users regarding problems with computer hardware and software, network connectivity issues, problems with court video/audio recording and broadcast equipment, problems with telephone equipment, and facilities issues.
  • Diagnoses technical problems and makes repairs or escalates to a higher level of IT support or facilities support as needed.
  • Installs, configures upgrades, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains all court technology equipment including computer software, hardware, and peripherals, including printers and scanners.
  • Offers viable suggestions to court administration on how to effectively solve court technology and facilities issues.
  • Establishes and maintains effective, cooperative, and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Acts as liaison between court and service providers, effectively communicating with providers as needed for administration of facilities operations.
  • Adapts to changing technologies and learns functionality of new equipment and systems.
  • Assists in the planning of information technology and facilities projects.
  • Conducts initial ergonomic assessments for court staff and implements agreed-upon adjustments.
  • Receives, sorts, distributes, and delivers incoming and outgoing mail and court files; keeps mail supplies stocked; answers questions regarding mailroom operations and postal rates and regulations.
  • Assists court customers and visitors by providing information or directions to connect them with court services. Helps coordinate access to services, acts as a liaison for the court.
  • Assists Procurement staff in receiving, stocking, delivery, and disposal of court business materials.
  • Safely operates light truck or vehicle. Provides messenger delivery service between court locations and other designated areas, Operates handcarts. Wraps packages for shipments when needed.
  • Performs repairs on furniture, buildings, and equipment, which may include painting and light carpentry.
  • Maintains the upkeep and appearance of court vehicles.
  • May provide janitorial services and performs other routine manual and clerical tasks.
  • Loads and unloads vehicles; moves furniture and equipment; assembles and dismantles equipment, shelves, furniture, etc.

KNOWLEDGE OF
