Court Interpreter - Spanish

Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa announces an open recruitment for a full‑time permanent Spanish Court Interpreter position. The annual salary range is $83,449.60 – $. The court is open to candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and who can interpret effectively for non‑English speaking parties in any of the court locations (Martinez, Pittsburg, Richmond, and Walnut Creek).

• Interpret from and into English and Spanish using simultaneous, consecutive, and sight translation modes at court proceedings and for other court departments.
• Prepare and translate documents (court petitions, reports, waivers, disposition statements, etc.).
• Interpret for judges, attorneys, court staff, and other court departments at the direction of the court.
• Notify the court of any items that may impede interpreters’ performance.
• Receive daily calendar assignments from Interpreter Services Staff and accurately complete daily activity logs or other documentation as required.
• Provide general court information to the non‑English speaking public and process related documents.

• Knowledge of court proceedings, legal and forensic terminology, and relevant documents.
• Understanding of interpreter ethics and California Rules of Court, Rule 984.4.
• Ability to orally convey meaning accurately without editing, summarizing, or omitting.
• Adaptation to speakers with varying voices, accents, and speeds.
• Impartial interpretation in adversarial and emotionally charged situations.
• Proficiency with office equipment, computer, telephone, and copier.
• Ability to travel within Contra Costa County and maintain effective working relationships with diverse backgrounds.

• High school diploma, GED equivalency, or high school proficiency certificate.
• Valid certificate as a “Certified Court Interpreter” issued by the Judicial Council of California.
• Valid California Driver’s License or alternative transportation method.
• Successful completion of a criminal history check (LIVESCAN).
