Job SummaryCARECEN seeks a Spanish-speaking Intake Coordinator to assist clients at local California State Universities and Community Colleges who may qualify for legal services. The Intake Coordinator may assist in outreach activities and community education activities.
Job Responsibilities /Essential Functions- Coordinate intake appointments for campus affiliates seeking legal services.
- Manage and coordinate appointments from local CSUs, Community Colleges, and referrals from other agencies.
- Manage and coordinate college legal service referrals from other legal departments within CARECEN.
- Under the supervision of attorneys or accredited representatives, Intake Coordinator may assist a limited number of clients to prepare submission to USCIS, state courts, and other applications.
- Provide reception services as needed.
- Perform clerical duties for the legal department as needed.
- Translate documents from Spanish-to-English (and vice versa).
- Interpret at interviews before USCIS as needed.
- Assist in other administrative matters, including mail.
- Assist in workshops and presentations.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or managing attorney.
- Verbal and written fluency in Spanish and English languages.
- Excellent communication, interviewing, writing skills.
- Sensitivity and desire to work with college students and campus affiliates.
- Attention to detail and effective time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of clients and volunteers.
- Demonstrated commitment to mission and goals of CARECEN.
The position is a full-time non-exempt (hourly) position. Office hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The work schedule for this position is a 35-hour workweek equaling 7-hour workdays. Some weekend work may be required. The position is part of the bargaining unit represented by the union.
Work Environment & Physical DemandsThis position operates in a professional office environment. The position requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary. Telecommute is currently offered, with transition to in person work at the CARECEN Los Angeles office. Work is performed in a variety of work settings, including CARECEN’s offices, workspace provided by other nonprofits, and government facilities, among others.
