Responsibilities Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips.
  • Provide Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
  • Ensure permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify management of issues.
  • Check safety equipment prior to trips; report problems.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time.
  • Secure detainees properly during transport and ensure paperwork accuracy.
  • Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transport.
  • Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
  • Manage vehicle servicing and pickups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of experience handling prisoners or as law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
  • Minimum age 21; U.S. citizen; valid U.S. driver license.
  • 80 hours of certified driver’s training; completed certification in corrections, law enforcement, or military.
  • Clean driving record; no recent DWI/DUI or multiple moving violations.
  • Pass drug and alcohol tests.
  • Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
  • Reliable attendance and alertness on shift.
  • Ability to work up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period.
  • Ability to work with computers and obtain a USDOT medical certificate if required.
