General Description:
The Compo under I is responsible for the manufacturing of bulk products. The materials and products they handle are very expensive. Any spill or error in the handling of these materials may result in a significant loss to the company. All work must be carefully and accurately performed and documented to meet requirements set by our customers and by the FDA. Anything less than complete compliance in these areas may result in significant liability to the company and the company’s reputation.
Compounders must be capable of developing strict habits to minimize the possibility of error in their work. They must be able to work in an environment where their work is closely reviewed with a minimum of error.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
- Promotes a safe working environment and adheres to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, company safety rules, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) in line with the company’s objectives and policies at all times.
- Sets up equipment as needed to compound products.
- Cleans and sanitizes tanks and equipment as needed.
- Performs weighing of raw materials as needed.
- Performs compounding steps under the direction of a senior compo under.
- Learns and understands batch formulas- mixing directions, heating, cooling, operating specialty equipment, and all steps related to making the product.
- Checks and verifies raw materials for batches. Understand different chemicals and containers.
- Communicates with the quality department regarding batch instructions and additions.
- Learns to operate the different tanks and understand the differences and similarities between the tanks and other equipment.
- Learns and understands how to check tanks and equipment for cleanliness and ensure all equipment is operating properly.
- Completes and verifies manufacturing documentation as required.
- Uses scales, meters, and manual measurements to measure material quantities.
- Operates various lifts to move materials to and from pallet racks.
- Able to perform basic troubleshooting of equipment, make basic repairs, and involve supervision and maintenance as needed.
- Follows written procedures from batch records, SOP’s, and departmental procedures in the compounding of bulk products.
- Identifies and communicates discrepancies with materials, products, or equipment.
- Works with supervision, maintenance, QC, and R&D in the resolution of discrepancies.
- Handles equipment and materials in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Maintains a clean and professional personal appearance and working area.
- Wears personal protective equipment as required.
- Other duties may be assigned by Compounding Management.
- No allergies or sensitivity to chemicals that may preclude the handling of materials or use of personal protective equipment.
- Wears a respirator when required.
- Climbing stairs of tank area.
- Long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling.
- Must be capable of handling 55-gallon drums.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
- 3 years’ experience in a compounding environment; preferably in cosmetics process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
- Previous Pre-Weigh experience.
- Mechanical aptitude to understand the use of compounding equipment.
- Basic knowledge of power and hand tools to perform job functions.
- Strong English communication skills: speaking, reading, and writing.
- Strong math and analytical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
