The primary function of this position is to set-up and operate heavy duty power presses to produce quality parts per specifications while observing Health, Safety, and Environmental responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform set-up on progressive and single station dies; select and position special purpose die sets into ram and bed of machine.
- Perform first article inspection on set-up parts; monitor parts throughout the run to meet blueprint requirements using precision measuring instruments.
- Complete required forms such as Tooling Work Orders, control plans, and properly fill out inspection forms.
- Perform daily inspection at the start of shift to ensure presses are functioning properly.
- Adjust depth and pressure of ram stroke; align bolt dies to ram and bed of machine.
- Recognize cosmetic non-conformances such as burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts; initiate action to prevent non-conformance such as stopping the machine and notifying Supervisor.
- Make adjustments to shut heights, feeders, pilot release, lubrication systems, stock guides, scrap controls, safety systems, tapping units, die sensors, and air blow offs.
- Follow all 5S department procedures which include keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organizing part pans, and performing other housekeeping duties.
- Occasionally use forklift to move parts only if authorized (certified).
- Comply with rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
- Attend all training provided and adhere to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements and safe operating procedures at all times.
- Bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
- Seek opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results.
- Suggest waste elimination initiatives such as recycling opportunities and elimination of paper waste.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Analytical – Collect and research data; use intuition and experience to complement data; understand work flows and procedures.
- Technical Skills – Understand SPC and tolerance specifications; correctly use micrometers, calipers, indicators, comparators and tensile testers. Understand ISO 9001, AS 9100, NADCAP, Mil-Specs, ITAR, Aerospace spec. Transfer technical knowledge to others.
