QC Technician I – Oterra
Position details: second shift (1pm to 9:30pm), with training during first shift for first 60 days.
SummaryThis position works under general supervision and is primarily responsible for monitoring and adjusting the production process to ensure customer product specifications and company quality standards are met.
Responsibilities- Monitors the production process; accurately tests and interprets raw materials and work‑in‑process for adherence to customer specifications and company quality standards; promptly informs production of any adjustments needed.
- Analyzes final products with all required tests for product approval and performs various in‑process laboratory tests.
- Ensures proper aseptic sample methods for microbiological samples; assists with handling samples submitted for microbial analyses and order creation for the external laboratory.
- Calibrates lab instruments and equipment to specified standards and ensures lab cleanliness according to GMP or GLP as required.
- Organizes and maintains all required paperwork and documentation.
- Proficient in Doc Box and SAP for results entry and release.
- Performs assorted tasks assigned by the QC Lab Manager (e.g., sample preparation).
- Maintains a clean supply of glassware to perform all required testing.
- Monitors inventory levels of lab supplies and informs person responsible for ordering.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field or at least two years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; to read and comprehend SOPs, equipment manuals, and blend formulas.
- Effective communication skills; ability to interpret testing results and follow SOP documents for appropriate action.
- Proficient in operating laboratory equipment, instruments, and office equipment.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel) and database programs.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rates, ratios, percentages, and volumes using metric equivalents.
- Previous experience in a GMP environment is beneficial but not required.

Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting, temperature and noise levels are adequate, with occasional exposure to cold temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment is required at all times, including a lab coat, hair/beard net, safety glasses, gloves, and a dust mask when working with powdered media substances. Weekend work may be required.
Physical DemandsThe employee is frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. Regular lifting or moving of materials or equipment up to 25 lbs. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required include vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
