Machine Operator–Coil Wind – Patterson‑Kelley

How You Will Make An Impact (Job Summary)

As a Machine Operator, you will set up and operate conventional, special‑purpose, and numeric‑control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic parts.

What You Can Expect In This Role (Job Responsibilities)
  • Design and/or develop tools, jigs, and fixtures used in production.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and write dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine‑control media.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining, and adjust controls as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
  • Set up and operate machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Fit and assemble parts into a complete assembly.
  • Verify dimensions and alignment of assembly.
  • Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts.
  • Develop specifications from general description and draw sketches of part or product to be fabricated.
  • Confere with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education) Required Experience
  • 1‑3 months relevant experience and/or training.
Preferred Experience , Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Fully qualified Machinist with eight terms of machinist courses at an accredited technical school and a passing written test.
  • High school diploma or GED.
Travel & Working Environment
  • Employee regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee frequently required to walk, talk, and hear; occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
