Our Catholic worshipping community of St Macartan’s is integral to us living our faith. We need to be connected to every generation, especially the youth of our Parish. The purpose of the Youth Worker is to encourage youth to gather in a safe Christian environment, both formal and informal. The role involves fostering social and spiritual relationships, encouraging friendships, community connectivity, and potentially developing new youth leaders.
The goal is to help youth explore their faith and find relevance in their lives, creating a safe “hang‑out” for wayward youth who may be more comfortable on the streets but feel welcomed in a youth club setting. The focus is guiding the Youth with activities to keep them engaged and working together where possible.
- Develop parent and peer‑led Youth ministries across St Macartan’s Parish and potentially other parishes on the peninsula. Provide young people the opportunity to socialise, deepen their faith and put it into practice in practical ways.
- Help connect the Junior Youth Club to the fortnightly Sunday 11am Parish Youth Mass, encouraging full participation in the liturgy with readers, musicians, singers, etc.
- Coordinate Encounter Youth club gatherings; plan activities and events to bring fun, friendship, and spiritual awareness to the youth.
- Work with parents and create other leaders.
- Maintain a social media presence to increase youth participation, notifying youth of various ministry events via parish Instagram and sharing videos and posts.
- Build lasting relationships with youth and parents or guardians through the youth groups.
- Contribute to the Parish Bulletin and Parish Youth Council meetings as required.
- Ensure Child Safety requirements are being maintained.
- Other duties as directed by the Parish Priest.
- Willingness to work in Youth Work/Youth Ministry/Teaching.
- Ability to work cooperatively with the group.
- Effective interpersonal, group facilitation, and network skills.
- Knowledge of child safety regulations and how to respond to child safety issues.
- Respect for the mission, identity, hospitality, and core Catholic values of the Parish.
- A welcoming “Can do” attitude.
- Keeps privileged information confidential.
- Maintains effective working relationships with the Parish Priest and all staff.
- Co‑operates with colleagues to achieve the implementation of all Parish Policies and procedures.
- Valid Working with Children Check.
- Current Police Check.
- Valid Driver Licence.
- Onsite parking provided.
- Secure, supportive working environment with responsive duress protocols.
- A deeply meaningful role in a unique, city‑based parish.
