Summary
The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting Nursing Assistants to support resident care, diagnostic procedures, technical nursing treatments, patient charting, and patient instruction across Jefferson Barracks and John Cochran facilities.
QualificationsApplicants must meet the educational or certification/licensure requirements; they may be considered and referred but may not be hired until all requirements are satisfied.
Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship:
Only citizens may be appointed unless no qualified citizen is available. - English Language Proficiency:
Proficient in spoken and written English per VA Handbook 5005 – Part II – Chapter 3. - Education or Training:
One year above high school with courses related to the Nursing Assistant occupation. - Completion of an intensive, specialized course of less than one year may also meet experience requirements for GS‑3; evidence must be submitted.
- Creditable Experience (1) Knowledge of Current Practice.
- Experience must involve knowledge‑skill‑ability associated with current practice.
- Part‑time experience is creditable relative to the full‑time workweek.
- Grade Determinations:
Basic requirements plus criteria for evaluating candidate grade. - GS‑3 Nursing Assistant (Entry Level) Experience/Education.
- GS‑4 Nursing Assistant Experience and Education, including specialized experience or two years of related education.
- GS‑5 Nursing Assistant Experience, education, and KSAs for full performance level.
- Physical Requirements:
Typical for the occupation; no pre‑placement exam required.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, personal care, and prescribed patient care.
- Comply with policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures of the Medical Center.
- Attend mandatory training and continuing education as required.
- Assist with administration of care, treatments, and operation of medical equipment.
- Maintain a clean, infection‑controlled environment.
- Communicate with patients, families, and the nursing care team in a courteous, professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work Schedule:
12‑hour shift with minimal rotation.
Physical aspects associated with this role are typical for the occupation and generally do not require a pre‑placement examination.
