Overview

Responsible and accountable for the assessment and planning of care for peri‑operative patients through the pre‑admission screening program. The RN gathers health information from each surgical patient who registers on the day of procedure, evaluates the information, and plans pre‑operative preparation needs. Patients are prepared in a timely manner following all hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.

The RN ensures proper communication of patients’ special needs to the appropriate surgical team members, maintains a competent nursing skill level to provide safe, quality patient care, and upholds Mercy Hospital’s philosophy, mission, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Sensitivity to the needs of patients, families, and co‑workers is essential, with culturally appropriate care, effective pain management, and reporting of abuse or neglect.

Responsibilities
  • Gather health information from surgical patients upon registration.
  • Evaluate and plan pre‑operative preparation needs.
  • Prepare patients in a timely manner while following hospital policies and standards of care.
  • Communicate special patient needs to the surgical team.
  • Maintain competent nursing skills to ensure safe, quality care.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • Licensure: Current RN license in the hiring state or compact licensure.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years inpatient hospital experience.
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – or completion within 30 days of hire
    • Unit‑specific certifications as required.
Physical Requirements

Ability to push/pull/lift 50 lbs regularly; prolonged standing/walking; ability to bend, kneel, twist, and squat.
