Groundskeeper, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

PurposeAssists in the maintenance of City grounds, inclusive of the sports complex & playing fields, parks, greenway areas, City‑owned landscaped areas, and the grounds surrounding municipal facilities.
SupervisionUnder the direct supervision of the Assistant Park Maintenance Superintendent and the general supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent (Parks, Athletic Fields, & Grounds).
- Three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance, golf course management, sports field management, or similar work.
- Education in related field can be in place of work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
General knowledge of landscaping, grass, and tree care. Organizational/planning skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic Computer skills. Ability to troubleshoot, modify, and maintain maintenance equipment. Must be able to memorize and retain information. Must have good time management skills. Must have good cognitive and analytical skills. Must be able to handle stressful situations. Must be able to quickly judge and assess situations.
Must be able to make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility. Must possess manual ability to operate a computer.

- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License.
- Must possess and maintain a Playground Maintenance Technician Certification within one (1) year of hire.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain the following Public Pesticide Applicator Certifications from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) starting within the first year of employment.
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Subject to emergency call‑in.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the workforce.
- Ability to obtain position specific licenses and certifications as required.
