Park Ranger I/II – Parks (Blythe)
County of Riverside is seeking candidates for the Park Ranger I/II – Parks position located at Mayflower Regional Park, with support for additional sites in the Blythe area.
About the PositionPark Rangers are responsible for daily operations, safety, maintenance, and visitor services in County parks. Duties include routine patrols, enforcement of park rules, emergency response, resource protection, minor construction, grounds maintenance, and volunteer coordination. The role provides a foundation for progression into more independent ranger responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Explain park policies, rules, regulations, and County ordinances; oversee visitor registration, fee collection, camping permits, and campground assignments.
- Participate in custodial duties, maintenance, and minor construction with park personnel.
- Answer public inquiries and complaints concerning operations and maintenance.
- Provide assistance in emergency situations and maintain fire prevention standards.
- Patrol open-space, wildlife habitats, and conservation lands to enforce regulations and maintain accessibility.
- Plan and support habitat creation, restoration, and prescribed burns with regional agencies.
- Monitor court referral and work‑release programs.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Train assigned staff for Park Ranger II level when eligible.
- Two years of public interaction with conflict resolution and customer service experience; coursework may substitute 30 semester or 45 quarter units.
- Valid First Aid, CPR/AED, and Basic Water Rescue certifications within 12 months; completion of PC 832.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- Comfortable with cash handling, report writing, enforcement, patrols, and basic maintenance.
- Experience in a campground or park setting is desirable.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and ability to work in extreme weather and rugged terrain.
- Graduation with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, park or recreation management, forestry, botany, environmental science, or related field, or three years of park operations experience, or one year as a Park Ranger I.
- Valid First Aid and CPR/AED certificates;
Basic Water Rescue within one year.
- Park Ranger I: $21.43 – $29.16 hourly; $44,567.72 – $60,646.52 annually.
- Park Ranger II: $23.16 – $31.54 hourly; $48,168.05 – $65,608.96 annually.
- General abilities assessment prior to consideration.
- DOT mandated alcohol and drug screening compliance if position is safety‑sensitive.
- Knowledge of conservation, park management, law enforcement, and first aid principles.
- Ability to read, interpret, and enforce laws; train subordinates; maintain records; communicate effectively.
5/40 schedule:
Friday–Tuesday, with Wednesdays and Thursdays off. Flexibility for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
