Senior Scientist; Computational - Genetics

Overview

Senior Scientist (Computational) - Genetics at Washington University in St. Louis. Role involves leading computational biology efforts in the Cremins lab, overseeing computational infrastructure, and developing algorithms for genomics and imaging data analyses.

• Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
• Leads the process of monthly cleaning of servers and network attached storage to facilitate long-term cost savings for the lab.
• Oversees code development, data storage, and accessibility for genomics, imaging, and connectome data; develops algorithms with graduate students, postdocs, and scientists to advance papers and discoveries.
• Trains to master code for calling compartments, TADs, subTADs, loops in Hi-C/Micro-C data; oversees trainees to ensure high-standard code and parameter selection.
• Creates algorithms to analyze project data to generate paper figures, and guides lab members to write and edit methods sections and figures for manuscripts.
• Assists with grant preparation and reporting, including editing for lab’s annual grant progress reports and coordinating scientific content to meet deadlines.
• Prepares and submits papers; assists PI with paperwork (dbGAP/ENCODE data portal approvals, grant and university-related paperwork, RRPR reports) and coordinates with subteam members.
• Develops hypotheses and testing strategies; creates algorithms to analyze data, develops new code to find patterns in single-cell genomics and imaging data, and guides methods sections and figures for papers.
• Complies with safety procedures and maintains documentation; oversees data organization and curation on clusters/servers; writes SOPs for data storage/movement to GEO and NIH portals; trains new lab members on algorithms, Bitbucket, and data naming conventions.
• Manages research projects with other institutions and investigators.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical, and radioactive hazards.
• Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Required Qualifications
PhD or terminal degree, or a combination of education and experience that may substitute for minimum education.

Salary Range
