Position
Part‑time Staff Archaeologist at Montrose, working fieldwork in Northern California (Greater Sacramento & Bay Area). The role is as‑needed with flexible schedule; shifts assigned based on business demand; no guaranteed minimum hours.
Responsibilities- Conduct pedestrian surveys, construction monitoring, and testing; collect field data, digital photography, artifact identification, GPS data, and mapping.
- Coordinate with construction crews on monitoring needs and schedules.
- Maintain project files.
- Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards in environmental technical areas.
- Interact with customers and clients.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Exercise safe work practices by following company safety rules and OSHA regulations; attend required safety training.
- Participate in continuous improvement programs and support team efforts.
- Keep up‑to‑date with industry trends via training, publications, and workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years of California field experience in archaeological survey, construction monitoring, and site recording.
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related discipline.
- Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word/Excel and related software.
- Experience with GPS equipment and e.g., Field Maps, Survey 123, or similar software; required.
- Valid driver’s license and own transportation; travel often required off paved roads.
- Familiarity with cultural resource law and regulations preferred.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions presented to supervisors.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel to Northern California, walk, conduct long hours of fieldwork in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and carry up to 40 lb of equipment and supplies.
- Hourly wage $27 to $32, commensurate with credentials, geography, and performance.

Candidate must live within reasonable driving distance of the greater Sacramento & Bay Area. No relocation or travel assistance offered.
